Paranormal Flop: Ghost Dimension Review

paranormal-activity-the-ghost-dimensionHalloween may be over, but the thrillers aren’t. Here’s one of those thrillers in theaters now.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, the sixth and last movie in the Paranormal Activity franchise, is a complete letdown for those who have followed the story from the beginning, as well as for those who decided to drop in now. The movie is the same as it has been throughout all the past Paranormal movies, consisting of scary noises and jump scares. These repetitive jump scares are enough for a thrill, but not capable of the inflicting nightmares or lasting fear a decent horror movie would. In previous movies, demonic entities had always remained as unseen monstrosities, leaving the viewer with fear of the unknown. In this movie, however, the creators decided to reveal the creature that had been haunting the house and tormenting those within it for over twenty-five years. In one word, the spoiler is underwhelming. Viewers would expect that an important aspect of the movie would be more dramatic than an ectoplasmic black blob. Regarding special effects, the creators also decided to throw in some old video camera footage, which are some of the best effects of the movie (if old video footage is the best they can do, that’s not much of a good thing). In the footage, the protagonists are shown physical proof of the demon’s existence, while two little girls watch the protagonists within the footage. Both are unnecessary and confusing since the scene is just showing evidence that the demon exists, and the girls watching is an interesting and creepy addition to the movie that is never revisited, rendering no reasons in having the scene in the first place. The scene with the old camera footage at best does great with playing creepy static noises. Such are the depths to which the Paranormal Activity franchise has fallen, but then again, what is one to expect from the sixth in a series that has no plot?
