With less than two weeks left until the end of school, senioritis has spread to students from every single grade level. Summer always consists of dreams of multiple trips to the beach, Great America, and random adventures with friends and family, but in reality, we all know that three weeks into summer, we’ll all be lying in our bedroom feeling bored while scrolling through our Facebook feeds. This summer, to ease off some of the boredom and do something interesting, try out a summer job or internship! They’re great things to place on college apps as well, and make summer more interesting!
In order to maintain summer fun and get some money while enjoying the day, look for a job at an amusement park such as Great America or your favorite place to hang out, whether it be the local sports center, an ice skating rink , laser tagging center, or a bowling alley. The best part of getting a job at a place you enjoy hanging out at, is the usual employee discount that comes along with it. Not only can you earn money while working, but later on you can also enjoy hanging out at that place for at a cheaper cost, and with college coming up, who doesn’t want to save a bit?
Another option to cure summer boredom is to either volunteer or participate in an internship. Many people look for internships with colleges over the summer, but it is easy to find internships in the area by just asking around at local companies. Many technical companies or hospitals have summer internships or summer volunteering programs that are not only extremely interesting, but also keep you busy due to the time commitment. An internship or volunteering position, although requiring more of a time commitment than a summer job, enhances college apps and provides for an overall better experience of learning and enjoyment during the summer. For those looking for a smaller time commitment, there are many areas to help out at such as the animal shelter, tutoring programs in math and English at the library for children, and helping out at your local community center.
Regardless of what you decide to do over the summer, if you are looking for anything interesting to do, there is always something present in the area. The Bay Area is filled with opportunities to have fun and to learn something new. All you need to do is look!
