With the growing popularity of online payment services such as PayPal and Venmo, the need and demand for physical money has diminished. Businesses have now steered toward accepting Apple Pay and other mobile payment options. The MHS school bank currently can only accept cash as a form of payment, causing a major inconvenience for the tech savvy teen. MHS needs to catch up with modern payment and fully integrate the card system in the student bank and cafeteria.
The school bank only accepts cash which makes payments difficult for students who mainly rely on credit or debit cards. Prices for AP tests and ACT test can be expensive and carrying such a large sum of money can be dangerous on a high school campus. Credit or debit cards can be stolen, but there is an extra layer of protection with pin numbers. ASB has progressed by accepting card during prom ticket purchases which allowed more profit for ASB and convenience for students.
Students have been paying for lunch using an outdated and unpopular method. We have been stressing over bringing cash for lunch or funneling money into our school accounts. The school account holding the cash quickly runs out and becomes a major inconvenience when you run out. Using our debit or credit card in the cafeteria or overhang satellite kitchens can save us from unnecessary stress and we can easily manage our own personal banking accounts.
The presence of an ATM machine will be the next greatest thing on campus since the discontinuation of tardy sweeps. It will encourage students to not procrastinate to pay for expenses, especially for seniors. Any additional fees are an expense is a risk I am willing to take.
