As the first semester comes to an end, the MHS class of 2021 is more than eager to see what second semester has in store for them. There is already a lot of uncertainty clouding plans for the second half of the school year as COVID-19 cases continue to escalate and the school campus remains closed. The Union asked a group of seniors about their thoughts on senior year so far and the events they hope to attend before graduating in June of 2021.
Senior Aashna Gajaria was disappointed that the pandemic put senior activities on hold; however, she has definitely gotten much closer to people during this time, she said in a Zoom interview. Furthermore, Gajaria felt that the workload got much worse this year, and she hopes teachers cut down on the heavy amounts of homework they assign, she added.
“I really hope [prom] doesn’t [get canceled], but if it does, I’m going to be really bummed out,” Gajaria said. “I’ve been looking forward to prom since middle school, and it’s always been the bigger thing for me compared to [Trojan Olympics].”
Senior Davalyn Le has accepted the fact that she is not going to get a normal senior year because the virus has taken over everything, she said in a Google Meet interview. Especially during the holiday season, she feels a little more upset about not getting a senior year, but she tries to make the best of what she has, Le continued.
“I think they (the school) can show more support to seniors,” Le said. “It might be a little bit selfish for them to direct their attention to us, but I think they should offer a virtual senior event or try their best to make a grad happen to show that they care.”
Senior Esha Dalsania plans on celebrating her senior year by seeing her friends and keeping in touch with them through calls, she said in a Zoom interview. She thinks the school has been doing a good job reaching out to students through social media platforms, Dalsania said.
“Since, especially for us (the Class of 2021), we didn’t even get a junior prom, I think that this is kind of upsetting,” Dalsania said. “It definitely has been unexpected for sure, but I try to do what I can with my friends by talking to them online and still trying to have an idea of a senior year,” Dalsania added.
