RATING 4/5
In the early moments of 2025, a new mobile game trend has risen. One of these popular hits known as Block Blast has become popular among students around campus and has reached players around the world.
At first, I used to tease my friend for playing Block Blast when it first started to go around. I assumed it was just another small mobile game from an advertisement that wasn’t that interesting. I never felt inclined to try it until I kept hearing about it more and more and realized how popular it was getting. I decided to give it a shot myself.
I never play puzzle games, but I found the game to be enjoyable. I don’t consider myself a puzzle enthusiast, so I expected a game that required a lot more understanding of puzzles and how to play; however, it was relatively easy to pick up.
The game is relaxing and comfortable to play. You are tasked with solving puzzles involving various matching, dropping, and swapping features to “Block Blast” your way to victory.
The goal is to connect a row or column of blocks with randomly given pieces of blocks across the board. When given pieces of blocks you connect them regardless of their colors, and it will blast all the blocks in the row or column, rewarding you with points and more space to continue matching.
“Block Blast” pushes players to use enhanced logical abilities and thought processing to overcome challenges.
Its ability to challenge players’ logical reasoning and thought-processing skills pushes it to be educational for its players. Each mode presents a different set of challenges. The game isn’t just about placing blocks randomly; players must carefully consider where to position each piece to maximize space, clear multiple lines at once, and avoid filling up the board too quickly, especially for players trying to reach high scores.
I initially struggled with managing space efficiently. I tended to make impulsive moves in hopes of connecting more lines at once, which can be frustrating sometimes but ultimately rewarding if it works out. I did learn to be patient and less risky in order to get higher scores
Despite my initial skepticism, Block Blast won me over and is not just a rip-off-Tetris game, as I thought it might be. However, I do believe the game could offer more features, in the sense of a more competitive, difficult, or goal-oriented mode besides just going for a high score.
Overall, Block Blast has emerged as a surprising and engaging addition to the world of puzzle games. Its balance of fun gameplay, mental challenges, and accessibility makes it a standout option for anyone looking to unwind during free time.
It’s a great casual choice for any audience and whether you’re new to puzzle games or someone who is very educated with it, Block Blast is definitely worth a try; you might find yourself hooked like many others.
