The student recognition committee hosted a movie night for the senior class in the theater on Friday, May 15th, 2025,. The movie played was “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”.
All of the seniors in leadership were placed in the committee and decided on the movie night as the last senior activity for all seniors to participate in, senior Vivian Hor said. “High School Musical 3” was chosen because it’s the graduation movie, Hor added.
“We came across “High School Musical 3,” even though some people haven’t watched the first and second movie, I feel like it’s really staple, and a lot of people know about it, and there’s a lot of graduation stuff, prom and all that stuff,” Hor said.
Because it is a senior year event, leadership decided to make the price of all snacks $1 to make the event more open to people, Hor said.
“So we wanted to give seniors a little benefit, and just make it easier on them, and it’s like a “thank you” for being in school,” Hor said.
The snacks were really cheap, senior Izair Lopez Guzman said. He bought the Swedish Fish and the Gummy bears, Guzman added.
“I personally came simply because I was here right before for PUSO practice, and then I remembered there was the event. So I’m like, you know what? It’s a great way to just pass the time,” Guzman said.
Guzman had never seen the movie before, but he liked the movie due to its plot, Guzman said.’
“It has a good plot, I’d say it has a point to where and what the characters want to be, and what the plot necessarily points to,so it’s not a bad thing,” Guzman said. “The music is pretty out there, so I wouldn’t say it’s terrible either. The music was pretty good,” Guzman added.
The lack of people in the event was unexpected, Guzman said.
“There was still pretty good energy,” Guzman said. “It wasn’t like it was dead silent. There was some clapping, there were some reactions. So, you know, I will say the audience was good. If we’re talking about quality, it was good. Talking about quantity, it wasn’t as expected,” Guzman added.
The movie was amazing and relatable, senior Jaelene Berjes said.
“I loved it,” Berjes said. “I grew up watching all the High School Musical movies, and I was singing throughout the whole movie. And growing up watching them and then actually being in the position that they’re in the movie is crazy to me. I always used to think that’s exactly how high school would be,” Berjes added.
Something the organizers should have done better was the advertising, Berjes said.
“Promoting it a little more. Because I honestly forgot it(movie night) was today,” Berjes said.
