Teachers compete in Rock Paper Scissors tournament

Teachers competed in a rock-paper-scissors contest on March 13 on the green to promote Trojan Olympics. ASB offered prizes such as crumble cookies and gift cards. The environment was very lively with speakers blasting loud music to hype the audience up. Every match was intense, and when a teacher won, there was loud cheering and lots of noise. It was an exciting event.

Counselor Julie Jones went to the green just to watch the event, but she ended up participating in the contest after someone gave her two necklaces of beads.

“I went through winning all my rounds until I ended up in the finals,” Jones said.

I was nervous, but I pulled through, Jones said.

“The last round really (was) when it all counted, all or nothing, and then I won. Jones said, “That was awesome,”.

I needed a consistent approach when I was facing my opponents, Jones said.
“Scissors, always. Scissors,” Jones said

Before the event, social studies teacher Danillo Escobar decided to participate because the activity sounded great, and it was an opportunity to have fun with the staff.

I am entering the event without having any expectations, and it was just to enjoy it, Escobar added.

“The tournament was created to get the staff involved in the Trojan Olympics,” ASB student Angelica Lal stated.

“All the teachers who came could play,” Lal said.

The setup required her whole team of 5-7 people to come before lunch started.

“Planning-wise, it took about a week or so,” Lal said.

Students also watched the competition below the stage during lunch, like Amari Sims, who believed the event created excitement among the crowd, he said.

“I didn’t know how it would work,” Sims said. “It ended up being really fun because all the teachers had a lot of spirit and really wanted to win.”

Watching the final match was the highlight of the event, Sims said.

“It’s pretty fun. It has a lot of school spirit, and it’s a really good experience,” Sims said.
