Seniors win Trojan Olympics

Milpitas High School seniors take the first place victory at Trojan Olympics on Mar. 31, 2023. The win for the seniors was well deserved and completely fair, Senior Lauren Diep said.

“When they announced it, it was a really euphoric feeling. It felt like another senior night. I felt like it was a good ending,” Diep said. “All of this practice is going to be worth it and it really was worth it.”

The practice schedules were a lot more intense and at one point there was a 12 hour practice around a week before Trojan Olympics, Deip said. The junior’s win in the dances during last year’s Trojan Olympics set up for more pressure the seniors to perform well this year, Diep said.

“I didnt really want to win TO because I didn’t wanna take that moment away from the seniors,” Junior class president, Davin Jeng said.

Being close to beating the seniors was the goal and the juniors did attain that, Jeng said.

“Junior year was definitely when I wanted to do it because it was really school spirited and the feelin of wining was really nice too,” Diep said.

A recurring challenge is having freshmen join, senior ASB President, Victoria Ly said. Juniors and seniors had enough people but the numbers for freshmen and sophomores fell short at first, Ly said.

“Getting people and getting them to stay, especially for the underclassmen was difficult,” Ly said.

Trojan Olympics went much smoother this year in comparison to last year, Ly said. The preparation started much later than anticipated last year, Ly said.

“I feel like it was really hard to handle everything and manage my time,” Jeng said.

Everyone has different schedules and different lives so it was really hard to get everyone together to practice the dance, Jeng said.

“Last year for TO the dance was split into two different groups. So each group only had to learn a three minute dance,” Diep said. “This year though, everyone had to learn a seven minute dance,” Diep said.

Contrary to last year’s trojan olympics, this year stunts above the shoulder were allowed, Diep said.

“So last year was just chaotic trying to figure things out. This year we got to start a lot earlier, so I think it’s been smoother,” Ly said. “I had to top last year so we planned some pre TO events.”

Some of these events included a small movie night, some games on the green, and a balloon pop relay, Ly said.

“I just feel like it was a very good ending,” Diep said.
