With the growing number of milk tea stores opening in the Bay Area, it is getting harder to find an unique store. Bubbly Tea House in San Jose introduces something new to the milk tea market. For the price of $5.45, customers can have their drinks served in a designed glass bottle. The design of the glass bottle changes every week so that customers do not end up with multiple of the same bottle.
In terms of taste, the green tea is decent but the fruit teas are more delicious. I tried the Pink Dream, a jasmine milk tea with strawberry hearts. As an avid milk tea fan, I did not think that it was the best tea that I have had, but it was definitely not the worst. The tea tasted a bit bitter but the pearls had a nice chewy texture. The fruit teas tasted much better. The Sweet Passion, a jasmine green tea with passion fruit and fruit pieces, was refreshing and delicious.
Each of Bubbly’s drinks is creatively named, such as Totaro for taro milk tea with taro bits and Sweet Hulk for honeydew green milk tea with agar pearls. In addition, Bubbly is kid-friendly. There are two TVs set up with video games, such as Super Smash Bros, to entertain the kids while they are waiting for their drinks. Photo canvases of past bottle designs line the walls of the shop. The shop is quite small since half of the shop is used for storage.
Bubbly’s milk tea is decent, but their bottles are the true highlights. Since discovering the shop, I have been going there once a month to check out their new bottle designs. Not only are the bottles cute, but they are also reusable! If you are tired of having the milk tea served in a plastic cup, then step outside your comfort zone and check out Bubbly.
