Special homemade Valentines Day gifts

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but you haven’t gotten a gift for your special someone. You don’t want to spend too much money on a gift, nor do you want it to seem lazy, and most importantly, you want your present to make your loved one feel special. It almost feels like it’s the end of the world!

People often forget that there’s a great alternative to buying a gift: making a gift. Creating a present may seem last minute, but with the right amount of care and thoughtfulness, a homemade gift can be better than a purchased one. Remember, a present doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive to make someone feel loved.

Stuffed toy

Although making a stuffed toy takes lots of time, the end result of this project is very rewarding. Just remember to be extra careful when sewing, as you don’t want to accidentally hurt yourself.

Materials needed:

  • Thick paper/pen/marker
  • Scrap fabric
  • Needle/thread
  • Cotton/rice

Steps:

  1. Draw the outline for the stuffed animal on the thick paper, then cut it. The simpler the shape, the easier the sewing process.
  2. Place the template onto the backside of your fabric. Make sure the fabric is folded.
  3. Take your needle and sew around the template.
  4. When the sewing process is almost over, leave a generous opening in the fabric that is not sewn. This will be your hole to insert the stuffing.
  5. Turn the fabric inside out.
  6. Take your stuffing of choice and insert it into the hole you created. Add as much as you like.
  7. Sew the hole you created shut with a ladder stitch.
  8. Either take a marker or use your needle to create a face. Note that drawing a face is much faster than sewing one.
  9. After drawing a face, the stuffed toy is complete. Feel free to decorate it in any way you please.

Although this project requires some sewing knowledge beforehand, it does not take that much skill. This project enhanced my sewing and gift-making abilities; it’s a very fun way to pass the time and a great present to make.

Scrapbook

If you want to create something that isn’t that time-consuming, then a photobook is your go-to. A scrapbook is an amazing way of saying that you love someone. This present goes the extra mile to make someone’s day by highlighting special moments between the two of you.

You can use a small notebook to create this present. If you don’t have any spare notebooks lying around, you could use a binder and use scrap paper for its pages, or you could staple a few pieces of paper together to create a little booklet.

A scrapbook requires a lot of thought during its creation process, so you should take account of past interactions with your loved one. You should use photos, decorate the pages with designs from their favorite films and franchises, and leave little notes for them to read on each page. Including even the smallest thing about them can cause their day to become better and your bond with them to be stronger.

If you have any art block, then you can search up online tutorials or reference photos on social media. There are a lot of great options to choose from for inspiration.

The more thought put into this project makes it more special. Remember, to be loved is to be seen, so make sure to put extra thought into this gift!
