Humans of MHS: Ryan Ho (part 2)

“After I came out to my parents, they get it now, and have been fully supportive of it. And they gave me like, too much money to spend on clothes – not to spend on clothes but I spend it on clothes – so they’re like, supportive, they like it. [How was the process?] Oh! Yeah I’m fine. I did it on National Coming Out Day last year. I just wrote a note, and then I just left it in my dad’s car in the morning, and then I went to school. And then at lunch [my parents] just texted me, and then they were like ‘Whatever, it’s fine,’ and that’s basically it. I was nervous, but I knew I wasn’t going to get kicked out, so that’s why I did it. I don’t have like a lot – I have like a few close friends. I have a lot of friends but like. But my close friends really help me for like the other, coming out problems. They really helped me through a lot of that, so I’m grateful for my friends.

If someone’s reading this, and you’re thinking of coming out, don’t feel pressured by anyone. Just make sure you’re in a safe place.”
