Techways has the ambitious goal of creating a whole new app that acts as one-stop shop for all information you need for school, club president Abhay Raghavendra said. Raghavendra created this club because he wanted to work on projects that could positively impact the school and the community.
Techways’sTheir first goal is to create a new school app that lists the day’s lunch menu, event schedule, student calendar, school map, and staff directory, vice president Merdy Udatha said.
“We already know that there’s a lot of information that we find to be pretty scattered throughout the website, athletics app, separate events, events website,” Udatha said. “We want to bring it all together in a mobile app that’s convenient for users,” he added.
To accomplish this goal, the club has been split into 3 departments with each in charge of a specific part of the app-building process, Raghavendra said.
“So each of the officers is the head of a department: the coding department, the database management, and design branch,” Raghavendra said.
The graphic department is in charge of the design and appearance of the developing app, Udatha said.
“I’m in control of graphic design, so I would lead a team that makes designs on Figma, which is like Canva, and then basically moving those designs to Flutter,” Udatha said.
The database department is in charge of the database that will store the information that the app will store and show, treasurer Mokshit Kidambi said.
“We make databases for certain information that are too long to fit on a code so we have a consistent platform where we can put in and take out data and remove some data when we need to,” Kidambi said.
When developing the app, Techways has decided to use Flutter, a coding framework that uses the Dart coding language to build programs and code, Kidambi said.
“Flutter is a framework and Dart is the actual programming language,” Kidambi said.. “Framework is basically tools for making programming easier. And Dart is actual language that we use. It’s like a variation of C++,” Kidambi said.
Any students interested in engineering and related pathways are welcome to join the club, Raghavendra said.
“But I think really, anyone who’s trying to have an impact on the school, they want to try out new things,.” Raghavendra said. “They want to express their creativity, like through graphic design, they can join our club.”
