Who doesn’t remember spending hours as a kid making and playing with slime? Recently, students had the opportunity to relive these memories in J16 during lunch.
On Friday, May 30, the Wellness Center held a DIY slime activity, Wellness Center liaison and coach Stormy McNerney said. The event was previously held in past semesters and has been revived to help students relax before finals.
“(Making slime) is a nostalgic activity,” McNerney said. “A lot of teenagers were into slime when they were kids. I think it’s important to do activities that bring out that inner child, even if you’re grown.”
The DIY slime activity was the most popular event that the Wellness Center has held, McNerney said. There were only twenty spots open at the event, and had twenty students in attendance; some students would later come by and visit.
“We had limited supplies and space, so that’s why we did it in J16 for the more popular events,” McNerney said. “We had to turn some students away because we ran out of space and supplies.”
The event this semester was larger-scale compared to those previously held, sophomore Kaydence Nguyen said. There were more materials, such as fragrances and a wider variety of glitter, she added.
“I got to interact with more people,” Nguyen said. “A few of them were mainly asking for help, but it was so fun talking to people.”
The atmosphere of the event was peaceful for students, freshman Katie Cao said. Students were able to connect with others and take some focus off of studying, she added.
“The event was a good way to put your mind into focusing on one thing,” Cao said. “You have to really work out with the slime, because when you mix it, it’s kind of heavy.”
The Wellness Center will hold more activities for students to attend before the school year ends, McNerney said.
“We’re going to do something more outdoors,” McNerney said. “We’ll probably give away some mental health awareness (materials) and have a couple more art workshops as well.”
