Leadership hosts Pie Wars Event to Raise Money for Jack Emery

The annual Jack Emery Pie Wars was held outside the theater on Friday, Nov. 21. The event featured 22 CLOG officers, according to an Instagram post made by the MHSTrojans instagram account, ready to get pied by excited students to pie their friends. The pies were made of whipped cream, and students could donate $1 for a pie with all profits going to Jack Emery. Due to the massive popularity of the event, the event ended very early due to the whipped cream running out completely, according to CLOG commissioner Nellie Rathod Banuelos.

“Within 10 to 15 minutes we were already out,” Banuelos said.

This was the first time that Leadership opened up the annual Jack Emery Pie Wars to CLOGs, CLOG commissioner Saanjh Shukla said.

“Usually, it’s been with our class officers. This year, we just wanted to increase CLOG involvement,” Shukla said.

There was also an incentive for the CLOGs to participate in the event, with the introduction of CLOG points, Banuelos said.

“We involved CLOGs because we wanted to give an event for them to do in order to repeal strikes for CLOGs, which is why we got a really good turnout on CLOGs,” she said. “They get around 10 points for just participating.”

The Engineering Club participated in Pie Wars because of the perks that were offered with participating, junior and president of the Engineering Club, SanjayRam Vokkarne said in an email interview.

“We had one strike and decided to get rid of it,” Vokkarne said.

Junior Enzo Villanueva says he got chosen by the Engineering Club to be pied. Initially, he did not want to, but was signed up for it anyway, he said.

“They signed me up for it, and I couldn’t say no,” Villanueva said.

Since the event ended so early, there were people who had lost money without getting anything in return, junior Aditya Dornala said in an email interview.

“I put in $10,” he said. “and lost two bucks.”

Junior Jason Ng was quite disappointed that the event ended so early, he said. His friends convinced him to bring $30 to pie his friend, he added.

“I heard it through my friends,” Ng said. “They said that we’re going to do pie wars. And I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to do it.”

The event was massively popular, raising a lot of money for Jack Emery and selling out very fast, Banuelos said.

“We had a great turnout, so I see no reason to not do it again,” she said. “It (Pie Wars) was definitely a success.”
