Winterfest invites students to cozy Christmas decorations, wide array of vendors

Winterfest, held on Dec. 5 in front of the gym, featured a large selection of vendors, food trucks and stands, and Christmas-themed events, as festive music played in the background. Some Christmas-themed events at Winterfest included Christmas ornament decorating, cookie decorating, and Pin-the-Nose-on-Rudolph.

Winterfest is an event to bring people together, as students are currently stressed over cramming for finals, senior and lead of Winterfest Varadha Biju said.

“We do this every year as a way to start the holiday season,” Biju said. “Obviously, we have Jack Emery going on. So anything leadership is selling, such as our photo booth, hot cocoa, and stuff – all the proceeds are going to Jack Emery. … It’s just a fun way for kids to get food, to hang out with their friends, and to kind of bring people together.”

Since Winterfest had been done so many times, there was a template that could be followed, Biju said.

“So it’s honestly not much brainstorming, except for like, activities and games,” Biju said. “We already have a vendor list that we used before. Food trucks are pretty much the same. We know which food trucks the school loves, such as Foreign Tacos. The only real brainstorming was with activities. But even then, it was quite easy because we could just brainstorm holiday activities.”

Senior Asha Balu had a lot of fun at the event and appreciates the cheap cocoa, she said.

“I’d say the company I have is pretty good, and they make it (Winterfest) worthwhile,” Balu said. “If I was by myself, I think it’d just be like a one-time thing, unless they offer new vendors, then maybe I’d stop by, but I’m mainly here for the vendors.”

Although there is a very good selection of vendors, there could definitely be more, Balu said.

“It’s a bit short compared to what we used to have,” Balu said. “Decorations, I feel like it’s very limited to only the gym side.”

Junior Aditya Dornala bought drinks from a matcha stand, he said.

“I can’t really say it’s bad,” Dornala said. “Probably (need) more decorations.”

Biju is thankful for all the people in the committee who worked on Winterfest, she said.
“They’re really responsible, and they’re such a great group,” Biju said. “And also, another thing is that most of them are underclassmen, so I’m really excited to see what they do next year because I am leaving this year.”
