Charity Palette hosts tote painting workshop

Charity Palette hosted its first club meeting of the semester on Feb. 5, where students could join the club meeting and paint their very own tote bags. Charity Palette provided the tote bags, painting supplies, and snacks for the event.

The event had a very high turnout rate, with students filling the entire classroom in E01. Many students were interested in the event, but the large number of students made it difficult for some to find seating, and some students were unable to paint a tote bag due to the limited supply.

However, the students who were able to snag a tote bag seemed to enjoy painting and designing their tote bags with their friends.

Part of Charity Palette’s goal is to help students reconnect with their passion for art through workshops while raising funds to donate to charity, President Aanya Pradip, a junior, said. The club began planning this workshop in early January, she added.

“We looked at Pinterest, and we found a bunch of ideas, and we thought tote bag painting would be cool because people like painting, and also it’s a way to like de-stress, and it’s nice to have fun with your friends,” Pradip said.

After introducing themselves to the students attending the painting event, the club officers distributed painting supplies and set up the tote bags and snacks on one table so anyone could grab what they wanted.

Once everyone was settled, they also held a raffle for a $15 Amazon gift card, which went to one of the attendees.

The event was advertised through email and morning announcements, which helped draw more attention to the workshop.

Sophomore Danielle Younan heard about the event through the emails and decided to come to the painting workshop, she said.

“I’ve come to some other events, but I like it, because it’s painting, and I like art,” Younan said.

Younan really enjoyed being able to paint the tote bags that Charity Palette provided, she said.

“I really like this event because it gives you creative freedom, and you can kind of just express yourself through it,” she added.

Sophomore Pranavi Soudhari isn’t part of the club, but she heard about the event through the announcements and decided to come with her friends, she said.

Soudhari enjoyed “gathering (her) friends and then trying to pick out designs so it can be like matching tote bags,” she said.

While Soudhari enjoyed the event, she felt as though she didn’t have enough time to paint, she said.

“I think the event would be better if it was after school, so we could have more time to finish painting,” Soudhari added. “But I think it was a really cool idea, and they could really do this every year, and people would come to it.”

Younan encourages more students to come to the events hosted by the Charity Palette, she said.

“They (the events) sort of create a community of artists because we can all collaborate together,” Younan said. “It’s just really fun.”
