Snack attack, Asian Americans Association host a joint Ramen themed event

Snack Attack partnered with Asian American Association (AAA) to host a cultural meeting centered around learning the history of raman and talking about Lunar New Year traditions.

The meeting featured a slideshow on the history of ramen and an overview of Lunar New Year. During the slide show, Ramen was passed out in plastic cups.

Snack Attack typically hosts biweekly meetings centered on a different type of food, senior and vice president of the club, Vivian Ho, said.

“Usually our president Giselle takes charge in planning the topic and sourcing the food,” Ho said. “We have club funds that reimburse the members who paid for the food,” she added.

AAA tries to promote Asian culture, junior and vice president of  AAA Hilary Ha said.

“Our officers are all different types of Asians, and we wanted to create a community to connect with each other,” Ha added.

Events like this require planning and communication, especially because we are working with another club, Ha said.

“Our publicist made the post showcasing what we’re featuring; today it was ramen,” Ha said. “Snack Attack does biweekly meetings, giving out food biweekly, so they typically create RSVP links. They created the RSVP link so we would know how much food to prepare,” she added.

Most of the meetings are in G10, so anyone can come as long as they fill out the RSVP link, Ho said.

“Once in a while it’s in a theater, and we have big collabs or but usually we stick with G10 because it’s like the original meeting,” Ho said.

In order to gain money we fundraise from food sales and school fundraisers, which allow the club to host meetings and larger events, Ho said.

“We hosted this event to help spread food culture and create a safe space for people to enjoy food and eat in peace,” Ho said.

I found out about this event when I signed up to join Snack Attack at clog rush, freshman Sanya Lokande said.

“I really like food,” Lokanda said. “SnackAttack provides food from all cultures. That is why I wanted to come,” she said.

It was a very fun event, especially because I came with my friends, Lokande said.

“Everyone sits together, and there is no division,” Lokande said.
