Three trojans from each class competed in Slice Wars, a pizza-pie eating contest, to gain points for Trojan Olympics on Mar. 11. In order to win points for their class, each group had to finish two boxes of pizza quicker than the others. The juniors took first place, the seniors were second, the sophomores were third, and the freshmen were last.
The event had a large turnout of people, as there were about 100 students spectating or cheering for their peers.
Senior Adrea Wylie, an ASB student who helped run the event, said that Slice Wars was extremely successful. It took ASB students about two to three weeks to plan it, she added.
“There were a lot of people that went there, and they were very hyped and excited for it,” Wylie said. “We’re all happy with how it came out.”
Sophomore Michael Wheeler was representing his class alongside two others, sophomores Chloe Tran and Tasmai Manohar, Wheeler said. Despite earning third place, Wheeler was glad that they weren’t the last class.
During the competition, “I felt rushed (because) of the pressure of having to eat a whole bunch, like before the other classes,” Wheeler said.
Before eating the pizzas, Wheeler and his teammates came up with a strategy to eat faster, he said. It was, surprisingly, not against the rules just as long as they could finish everything.
“Our plan was to stack the pizzas on top of each other,” Wheeler said.
Senior Carlos Puente went to watch the event to support his graduating class, Puente said.
“I wanted to see my graduating class, the Class of ‘26, win, but we got second place,” Puente said. “But at least we tried — I just wanted the thrill of watching.”
Puente found the event extremely entertaining, watching other people compete against each other, he said.
“The event was pretty good, it was entertaining, and I was going crazy for my class,” Puente said.
