MHS needs more security

Discipline at MHS hasn’t been handled thoughtfully, and with the small amount of security that is frequently busy taking injured students to their classes or checking on bathrooms across the campus, the current system creates an advantage for students to fool around in the bathroom on the opposite side  and cause destruction. I believe that if we had more security, the discipline issues, such as fighting, vaping, and skipping class, would be reduced.  The campus has been somewhat out of hand this year. Bathrooms have been trashed to the point they had to be closed down, or are closed down because of many students either hanging out in the bathrooms or vaping, which is unfair for the students that have to use the bathroom. Also, the number of fights could be reduced if security was spread throughout the campus because students would know they were being supervised, and the staff would be aware instead of finding out from posts on Instagram and rumors. Discipline would be handled a little better through security if they weren’t over-pressured and forced to be in five different places at once. While there may be budget constraints, there should be a discussion on how the security guards are spread out. Instead of the security guards meeting up on one side of the campus, they should be spread out with one or two of them in different parts. The security guards should be more strict, not like cops but more fair. I’m not saying that security being nice or welcoming to the students is bad, but they shouldn’t be “easy” on them by letting them get away with being disobedient by letting them sit out of class just because they are “cool” with them. The security at this school has done a great job, but they are human, and it’s time to relieve the burden on their shoulders. Instead of teachers calling them to deliver items to their car or beckoning them every time a student isn’t listening, guards should be given time to focus on more important issues. Overall, the school could be in better shape if there were more issues being handled like actually enforcing punishments if they see that the security is bringing students in for important issues over “bathroom” situations.
